Bulembu Honey is one of the key business units able to drive the
revitalization of Bulembu and, as such, serves as an example of a
company that creates jobs and income (surplusses). The Bulembu
property has nearly 4000 acres of land and a large plantation of Eucalyptus Grandis trees with flowing streams and huge potential for rearing bees. One of the advantages for Bulembu Honey is the fact that it has access to more land for bee apiaries as it expands. Due to its close relationship with Neal Rijkenberg, the largest
private timber exporter in all of southern Africa and who owns several timber plantations - Bulembu Honey can expand to other properties using Bulembu as its central site for the companies processing plant.
The overall goal of Bulembu Honey is to empower Swazi enterpreneurs through jobs and ownership by creating and facilitating work experiences which will aid them to develop a sustainable business; specifically, to produce high quality organc honey for the export market and bottled honey for the local market.
Bulembu Honey has the potential to be the leading provider and exporter of organic honey in a market currently underserved and ripe with opportunity.
Bulembu is
a town in Swaziland with a heart and a vision. Abandoned by the mining
industry in 2001 the future looked bleak. The people were left with
nothing and driven out. As AIDS ravaged Swaziland, orphans and babies
were abandoned daily. But a team of entrepreneurs and social developers
see potential in Bulembu's spirit. Today, our vision is to creat a
totally self-sustaining community - restoring health, orphan care,
education, commerce and hope. As a shopper, visitor, worker or
investor, you too can breath life back into Bulembu.
